What is Tumor Oral?

Oral Tumor is known as mouth tumor. It is tumor that occurs in any part of the mouth, on the tongue surface, in the lips, inside the cheek, in the gums, in the roof and floor of the mouth, in the tonsils and also the salivary glands.

What are the signs and symptom of oral tumor?

Most patients have no detectable symptoms during the early stages of oral tumor. Smokers, heavy drinkers should have regular checkups at the dentists, dentist are often able to identify signs of oral tumor. There are several symptom of oral tumor such as:

  • A sore that does not heal
  • A swelling in the mouth that persists for over three weeks
  • A lump or thickening of the skin or lining of the mouth.
  • A sensation that something is stuck in throat.
  • A hoarse voice.
  • Dentures don’t fit properly
  • Jaw pain
  • Jaw stiffness
  • Loosening teeth (tooth) for no clear reason
  • Mouth ulcers that do not go away
  • Pain in the neck that does not go away
  • Pain when swallowing
  • Painful tongue
  • Patches on the lining of the mouth or tongue, usually red or red and white in color.
  • Sore throat.

What is risk factor of oral tumor?

There are several oral tumor risk factors:

    • Tobacco

It is increase the risk of oral tumor to those who smoking cigarettes, cigars, or pipes, or using smokeless tobacco causes oral tumor. The use of other tobacco products such as bidis and kreteks may also increase the risk of oral tumor.

    • Heavy alcohol use

The risk will be increase to those who are heavy drinkers are more likely to develop oral tumor than people who don’t drink alcohol.

    • HPV infection

Some members of the HPV family of viruses can infect the mouth and throat. This is because the viruses are passed from person to person through sexual contact.

    • Sun

Tumor of the lips can be caused by exposure to the sun. Using a lotion or lip balm that has a sunscreen can reduce the risk. Other than that, wearing a hat with a brim can also block the sun harmful rays.

    • A personal history of oral tumor

People who have had oral tumor are increase risk of developing another oral tumor.

    • Diet

Not eating enough fruits and vegetables may increase the chance of getting oral tumor.

    • Betel nut use

Betel nut is a type of palm seed wrapped with a betel leaf and sometimes mixed with spices, sweeteners and tobacco. Chewing betel nut causes oral tumor.

What is treatment for oral tumor?

Treatment for cancer and tumors has always been there long. The several of treatment are chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Patients can only use a variety of treatments available but must be discussed with the doctor about side effects. If this disease can be detected at an early stage, the best alternative is traditional treatment such as acupuncture and herbal. This treatment has been tested its effectiveness over the years.
